Today is someone’s birthday. Today, a pandemic stopped our lives. This minute, someone is dying. And what will we write? How do we elevate this occasion without making it sound like a news article or ironic card? In this six-week workshop, we’ll write poems that mark both private and public occasions, while honing our craft. For inspiration, we’ll read and discuss work by poets such as Victoria Chang, Aracelis Girmay, Sean Hill, Ada Limon, Kamilah Aisha Moon, Matthew Olzmann, and Javier Zamora, among others.
